All registrations must be approved by the Chief, Sheriff, Training Officer, or head of your department. THIS MEANS YOU CAN NOT REGISTER YOURSELF FOR TRAINING - YOU MUST GO THROUGH YOUR CHIEF, SHERIFF, or TRAINING OFFICER. All registrations must be approved by your department, even if you are attending on your own time. If you have any questions or comments, please call or Email the office. |
| ALL OFFICERS attending firearms training through MTU #10 will be required to submit a photocopy of their valid FOID card upon registration IF the weapon they will be using is personally owned. This requirement does not apply to those officers whose weapons are supplied by their department. |

Chiefs, Sheriffs, Training Officers: You may call to register your officers at 217-726-7014, or Email us at letac@sbcglobal.net with your name, department, title, date, time, and location of the classes for which you'd like to register your officers. You may also register using our online submission form. Start by clicking on the menu link at the left of this screen. If you are registered for a class, but are unable to attend, it is imperative that you advise us as soon as possible of your cancellation. NO SHOWS will be reported to your department after class is complete. MTU #10 member officers (does not include state or federal officers) will be given registration preference until seven (7) calendar days prior to the class date. After that date, registrations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis unless specified otherwise in the course announcement. If it becomes necessary to cancel a class for any reason, everyone who has pre-registered will be so notified. (We can’t notify you of last minute changes or cancellation if we don’t know you’re planning to attend!) Cancellations are also posted on our Yahoo! Group - another benefit to joining!WHY DO SOME OFFICERS HAVE TO PAY TUITION TO ATTEND SOME OF MTU #10'S CLASSES - DOES THIS APPLY TO ME AND WHY? WHO IS A "MEMBER" AND WHO IS NOT? By statute, the Mobile Team Units in Illinois were created to specifically provide continuing in-service training to local governmental law enforcement officers. Therefore, our training budgets must be used to specifically train LOCAL GOVERNMENTAL law enforcement officers. This is why officers from State and Federal Departments are considered non-members. IF YOU ARE NOT SURE IF YOUR DEPARTMENT IS CONSIDERED A "MEMBER" OR NOT, PLEASE SEE THE LISTING HERE ON OUR WEBSITE! The State of Illinois is divided into 16 separate Mobile Team Units (MTU's), each providing in-service training to the local governmental law enforcement agencies within its geographical boundaries. To support the local MTU, the local governmental law enforcement agencies in each region pay an annual assessment fee to continue "membership" to that region. (This fee, and the way it is assessed, is dictated by the MTU Advisory Board, and varies greatly from one MTU to another.) Each MTU must work within its annual budget to provide the training specifically needed in their region. Training needs vary from region to region, and year to year. This is why the training offered in each MTU varies also. Each MTU Director and his/her Advisory Board work together to utilize the MTU's budget to best meet the training needs of the officers within their respective geographic boundaries. Most of MTU 10's classes are offered, AT NO COST, to officers from non-member departments (including State and Federal officers) as well as officers from departments which are members of another MTU. All law enforcement officers are welcome to attend! (Though MTU #10 member officers are always given registration preference.) However, SOME of our classes are offered as tuition courses for non-member officers, which allows us to recover some of our expenses for training those officers. Those funds are then used for providing additional training courses throughout the year, or to offset training equipment costs. However, we make every effort to set the tuition amounts at very reasonable rates, and do not ever charge a penny more than the course actually costs to provide. (Quite often, we even take quite a sizable loss.) From time to time, MTU #10 will host a course in our region to bring the instructor to the area, without paying for the class. In these instances, the cost of presenting the class at no cost is simply too much for the MTU to pay. (Some courses can cost as much as one-half of our annual training budget!) In these instances, the instructor charges a tuition fee which applies to both member and non-member officers. The benefit of hosting these classes in our region is mainly to save local departments from paying travel expenses to send an officer away for this training. Any member or non-member tuition is clearly stated here, on our website, and on the course announcements which can be downloaded from the "Training Schedule" page. |

LAST MINUTE COURSE CANCELLATIONS Every now and then, due to some unforeseen circumstances, such as severe weather or instructor emergency, it becomes necessary to cancel a class on very short notice. Because of this, it is very important that we have valid contact information for each officer registered to attend class. Please make sure to include an Email address and/or phone number at which THE OFFICER ENROLLED can be reached in case of last minute cancellation. We will make contact with those officers who have been pre-registered in training, provided we have sufficient contact information available. JUST IN CASE, it is always suggested that you check back here on the Special Notices page of the website, or on our Yahoo! Group page, to see if the course is still being held. All cancellations will also be listed next to the course title on the Training Schedule page. Thank you for your understanding and assistance with this matter. |
